Who Do You Say That I Am? ~Jesus

X

You can believe all you want that there is one true God, that’s wonderful! But even the demons know this and tremble with fear before Him, yet they’re unchanged—they remain demons. James 2:19 The Passion Translation

Yep! I said the “D” word…..demons. They’re real you know. And even they know who Jesus is and they tremble in fear before Him.

How about you? Who do you say that Jesus is? That is the question Jesus Himself will pose to every person that ever walks the face of this earth. “Who do you say that I am?” Romans 1:19-20 declares that all of mankind knows there is a God. What each individual does with that reality is up to them. It’s called free will. You are a free agent to believe whatever you choose. You will have the opportunity at the time of judgment to tell Jesus face to face who you said He was while you lived out your life.

In reality, the truth of God is known instinctively, for God has embedded this knowledge inside every human heart.  Opposition to truth cannot be excused on the basis of ignorance, because from the creation of the world, the invisible qualities of God’s nature have been made visible, such as His eternal power and transcendence. He has made His wonderful attributes easily perceived for seeing the visible makes us understand the invisible. So then, this leaves everyone without excuse. Romans 1:19-20 The Passion Translation

Your eternal destiny will not be determined by

being a “good” person….

doing “good” works….

church attendance or membership….

monies given….

being an American….

family lineage….

religious traditions…

I can hear some of your brains sizzling! “But I went to Sunday School when I was a kid.” “But I’m in church every time the doors are open.” “But my great-great-great-grandparents founded this congregation.” “But I give my 10% tithe faithfully.” “But I’m an American so I’m a Christian.” But…..But…..But….I….I….I….

Let me describe it another way. God is in no way impressed with our earthly “accomplishments”. He does not take notice of degrees and titles, bank accounts and material wealth, career success, or name dropping. In fact, this is what He says in Isaiah 64:6 about all the “things” we think might get us on His “good side” after we die and are standing before Him.

We have all become contaminated with sin, and You see our self-righteousness as nothing better than a menstrual rag. We are all like fallen leaves, and our sins sweep us away like the wind. The Passion Translation

Your eternal destiny rests on one question….”Who do you say Jesus is?” Jesus invites you, calls out to you, yearns for you, pursues you to come to know who He is because He knows who you are through and through. He knows all about you…every thought you will ever have, every word you will ever say before you say it, every dark sin you have ever committed, and yet He loves you with extravagant love.

You Know All About Me- Psalm 139

For the Pure and Shining One
King David’s poetic song
1 Lord, you know everything there is to know about me.
2 You perceive every movement of my heart and soul,
and you understand my every thought before it even enters my mind.
3–4 You are so intimately aware of me, Lord.
You read my heart like an open book
and you know all the words I’m about to speak
before I even start a sentence!
You know every step I will take before my journey even begins.
5 You’ve gone into my future to prepare the way,
and in kindness, you follow behind me
to spare me from the harm of my past.
With your hand of love upon my life,
you impart a blessing to me.

Beautiful, isn’t it? And that’s only the first 5 verses! The Psalm continues here.

In the Scriptures, Jesus was referred to as….The Christ, Anointed One, The Messiah, Teacher-Rabbi, Son of God, Son of Man, Son of David, Lamb of God, Last Adam, Light of the World, Bread of Life, King of the Jews, Prophet, Apostle, High Priest, King, Morning Star, the Alpha and Omega….just to name a few!

If you refuse to surrender your life to Him and become His Follower, what will you say to Him when you see Him face to face? When His kind, loving eyes look into yours, how will you explain your rejection of Him and your total indifference and mocking of His sacrifice for you?

Even the demons of hell and satan himself know who Jesus is.

Do you?

Here’s a little secret….none of us are getting out of this gig alive. We’re all going to die. The choice you make of surrendering your life to Jesus… or not, will determine your eternal address. It’s that free will thing….you get to choose.

Jesus said to him, “I am the [only] Way [to God] and the [real] Truth and the [real] Life; no one comes to the Father but through Me. John 14:6 Amplified Bible

There you have it from Jesus Himself….He is the ONLY Way to God the Father. Mental assent doesn’t count for a darn thing. Remember the demons? Surrender is bowing your knee in humility before your Creator and receiving the gift of His payment for your sins. Yes, you’re a sinner like everyone else. He bought you and rescued you from the dregs of darkness, torment, rage, sin, bitterness, fear, addiction, shame, despair, and crippling loneliness. His work was done on the Cross two thousand years ago. Your freedom was bought and paid for with the blood of Jesus. Will you declare Him your Lord and Savior? Your Healer? Your Redeemer? Will you live for Him and no longer for yourself?

If you give Him who you are, warts and all, one day, when you see Him face to face and He asks you, “Who do you say that I am?”, you can look Him squarely in the eye, run to Him, hug Him, and boldly say to Him, “I KNOW WHO YOU ARE!”

You are the One who loved me when everyone else abandoned me….

You are the One who gave me beauty for ashes….

You are the One who healed my battered and broken heart….

You are the One who clothed me in Your righteousness and washed away my sin and shame….

You are the One who lifted me from darkness and despair to a place of honor as God’s son or daughter…

You are The Holy One, The Messiah, The Anointed One.
